In keeping with CCBNC's mission “to provide a forum for nurses to decrease healthcare disparities of African Americans and the underserved communities through advocacy, education and health promotion,” the topic is The Role of the Nurse in Eradicating the HIV epidemic in the Black Community.

  1. Black women are getting HIV at higher rates than other women of other races, in fact over 50% of the new cases of HIV
  2. Even with new prevention tools like PrEP, our community continues to have disproportionate numbers of HIV diagnosis
  3. Less than 8% of women who could benefit from PrEP don't know about it, aren't offered it by their provider
